A CONTROVERSIAL $30 million shopping centre at Currajong has been approved by Townsville City Council’s Planning and Development Committee.

The vote went down to the wire with councillors split on the development until Committee chair Cr Tony Parsons decided to support the complex and use his casting vote.
Parkside Development plans to develop Mike Carney Toyota Park on Hugh St into a Coles supermarket with 18 specialty stores.

The final decision on the development will be made at a full council meeting on September 22.
