Ho Ho Ho Hummm……
Well it’s that time of
year….things are starting to get busier. Between the Christmas parties, lunch
catch-ups and trying to ensure that you don’t get caught again like last year
shopping with the two million people to get your Christmas shopping done….on
Christmas Eve!
Do you spend your time
at those Christmas parties, standing near the bar counting down the minutes
whilst smiling your way through conversations with people that don’t really
seem to talk with one another unless at these functions? Do you
walk out of these functions thinking to yourself well that was a waste of time,
another one bites the dust?
But let me ask
this…..How much effort do you put into those Christmas parties and functions?
Rather than stress about how much time is left on the clock before it won’t
look silly that you leave or what excuse can I use this time to leave, try
consciously changing your thought patterns to what can I take out of this
function. What new contacts or friends can I make from this function?
So here’s some tips for
making your next function one to remember:
- Rather than clock watching – try people watching, this is often very enlightening and you can learn a lot from watching how people interact.
- Rather than engaging in chat with only the people you know – engage in a conversation with someone you have never spoken to with the aim to learn something about them. Ask then what they do as a hobby?
Change your questioning
slightly – Mix it up! It's Christmas after all
- Change the ‘what do you do?’ questions ask ‘what do you love about your job?’
- Or rather than ‘what are your plans for Christmas?’ ask ‘imagine if you won lottery, how would you spend Christmas this year?'.
REMEMBER SMALL TALK IS ONLY
AS SMALL AS YOU MAKE IT!!
Merry Christmas
everyone!!
